INTER-SCHOOL MATCHES

The successes of last year were emulated and improved on, as was expected with a largely unchanged team.

The Seniors, suffering as usual from the lack of a really good sprinter, were only defeated once, at the hands of Thames Valley and Hampton in an enjoyable match at Twickenham, and this lapse was amply compensated for later on in the season. The St. Nicholas Trophy remains on our sideboard after an exciting contest in which our Triple Jumpers enabled us to overhaul Queen Elizabeth School in the final event, compensating for earlier deficiencies on the track.

Colours were awarded to the following boys: E. Cardy, J. Gibson, R. Lake, C. Sanderson, A. Speller and P. Strange.

Pole vaulting was introduced on a limited scale and a sufficiently high standard was produced to enable two boys. K. Bryer and I. Jones, to compete for the Area in the County Schools' Championships.

Amongst the more Junior members, mention must be niade of the four boys, N. Sharp. D. Miller, P. Davies and G. Curd, who, throughout the season, made up the "Minors" team, were only defeated once, and formed the relay team which finished second in the County Grammar Schools' Championships.

Junior Colours were awarded to: R. Green, G. Horn, I Jones, C. Knight, J. Ward and A. Westray.

The Athletics Club owes a debt of gratitude to Mr. Brian Ridge who has always interested himself in the Athletics of the School, and this year was responsible for training the team of officials who, largely unsupervised, organised all our evening meetings. Our loss is Abbotsfield School's gain.

MIDDLESEX SCHOOLS' CHAMPIONSHIPS

Four boys from the School, Harris (Shot). Bulgin (Hurdles). Strange (High Jump), and Butterfield (Triple Jump) won Senior County titles at the finals' Meeting held at Hayes Stadium. This would almost certainly have beer five had not Kerton broken down with a bad leg injury during his heat of the mile.

Harris, Bulgin and Butterfield represented the County in the All-England Championships at Hull: all were placed in the first six and thus helped Middlesex to win the Senior Trophy.

MIDDLESEX GRAMMAR SCHOOLS' ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION :
N.W. GROUP CHAMPIONSHIP AT KINGSBURY, JULY 11TH.

Although the School easily won the Senior section of the competition, we were just five points short (236 to 241) of wresting the Group Trophy from the holders, Harrow County School, although second place was a much more satisfactory performance than that of preceding years.

In the finals meeting at Chiswick, the Seniors won the Bowles Cup by a large margin, and Harris and Butterfield joined Dothie as Middlesex Grammar Schools' record holders.

Other highlights came in the Middle 80 yards and the Junior Mile in which Hooper and Roy were runners-up after really determined runs, both in personal best times, and in the performances of the three relay teams, all of whom reached the finals through good baton changing rather than individual speed.

In the unofficial overall team result, the school was placed second to Hampton G.S., out of the forty-eight schools which make up the Association.
