BADMINTON REPORT 1975

By John Kirkham

With only one person with any experience of first team badminton returning to school this year, success was not anticipated. However, the 1st VI finished with a marvellous record, winning eleven of their fourteen matches. The 'A' team finished second to the powerful John Lyon team in their zone of the Middlesex League and again won the West London League.

The first pair, John Kirkham and Steve Entwistle, were the most consistent, playing good Badminton at times, but they occasionally lacked concentration. Robin Penny and Martin Tidy started the season in excellent form, which deteriorated somewhat as the year progressed. Adrian Bath and Paul Morris started playing together regularly just after the start of the season and steadily improved, both individually and as a pair.

The School 2nd VI also competed in the Middlesex League and performed creditably despite having several 'A' teams amongst their opponents. Special mention must be made of Marc Peirson, Robert Elvin, David Hazard and David Schindler, all of the Middle School, and all playing their first full competitive season of Badminton, and of Alan Parfitt of the Upper Sixth, who took up the game only this year and improved tremendously as the season went on.

Half-colours were awarded to Kirkham, Entwistle, Penny, Tidy, Bath and Morris.

Our thanks go to Messrs. Cahill and Hawley for their support and encouragement and to Mrs. Simmons and the other ladies of the Parents' Association who so willingly gave of their time to provide teas.

J. A. Kirkham.
Captain.
