BADMINTON TEAM REPORT 1969-70

By Anon

The basketball team has had its best season for several years. The potential of the team was very high and was only stifled to a certain extent by lack of matches at a vital stage in the season. The team was formed from a mixture of new and experienced players. The experienced players helped the new players along and the blend that resulted was good. The team started the season well by beating Vyners. However, we were beaten by Barnhill at home. From these two results a committee decided that Vyners and Barnhill should enter the Middlesex competition.

The rest of the season was quite good except for the period when no matches could be arranged

The most improved player of our team was lan Frazer-Barnes who at the beginning of the season could only jump. However, utilising this ability and improving his general basketball skills he became a strong defender and added height to the attack. Tom Roscoe had a good season, being consistent throughout and was one of the main backbones of the attacks. Dennis Macarthy likewise was strong in attack and they worked well together. The all round skills of both were excellent with Dennis's added skill of dribbling into attack with his feel.

The most outstanding player of the season was R. Wickison who saved us by his tenacious play in many a tight situation. M. Morgan, P. Goulding and M. Barber also played in the teams and reached a high standard.
