CRICKET

CRICKET, SEASON 1957

THE weather has allowed a rather fuller season this year, although the staff match was mercifully curtailed by rain.

UNDER 15 XI

Played 6, Won 2, Lost 4.

St. Clement Danes. H. Lost by 8 wickets
Borehamwood G.S. A. Won by 19 runs
Rickmansworth G.S. H. Lost by 6 wickets
Watford G.S. A. Lost by 7 wickets
Rickmansworth G.S. A. Lost by 8 wickets
Borehamwood G.S. H. Won by 8 wickets

Potentially the Under 15 XI was a strong side with good batsmen and a variety of bowling talent available. Unfortunately. practice on asphalt resulted in the batsmen playing their strokes too early when they came to play on grass. Scores were generally low and the bowlers rarely had runs to spare with which to 'buy their opponents' wickets.

UNDER 14 XI

Played 6, Won 3, Lost 1, Drawn 2

St. Clement Danes. A. Lost by 11 runs
Eliots Green G.S. H. Won by 2 wickets
Rickmansworth G.S. H. Won by 14 runs
Hayes County GS. A. Match Drawn
Rickmansworth G.S. A. Match Drawn
Watford G.S. H. Won by 4 runs

This was a satisfactory season for the Under 14 XI who were well led by Sanderson. Smith improved considerably as a bowler, although Lake failed to reach top form until the last match. Gower played well behind the wicket and his tendency to snatch, although still apparent, was greatly reduced. Sanderson was the mainstay of the batting and Syms had his best season so far. Junior Colours were awarded to Sanderson.

UNDER 13 XI

Played 6, Won 2, Lost 2, Drawn 1, Abandoned 1

St. Clement Danes A. Match Drawn
Rickmansworth G.S. H. Won by 2 wickets
Hayes County G.S. H. Lost by 6 wickets
Pinner County G.S. H. Won by 11 runs
Watford G.S. H. Abandoned. Rain
Watford G.S. A. Match Drawn

Throughout the season Samways set a high standard of captaincy both on and off the field and his bowling was extremely valuable to the side. Dean produced attractive stroke-play and, although we are very sorry to lose him, we wish him well at Mill Hill School. Generally the batting lacked power and some members of the side would do well to remember that the batsman's object should be to score runs.

UNDER 12 XI

Played 4, Won 2, Lost 1, Tied 1

Rickmansworth G.S. A. Won by 64 runs
Watford G.S. A. Lost by 7 runs
St. Clement Danes H. Won by 1 wicket
Walford G.S. H. Tie

Fifteen boys represented the School in the four matches played and the success of the side augurs well for the future. Bowers is developing into a safe wicket-keeper and Moore a stylish opening bat. Buck, who towards the end of the season improved considerably, and Shepherd bowled and batted well. N. Chambers captained the side and looks a promising all-rounder.
