In this, our first season of Ist XV Rugby, we were confronted on most occasions by larger packs and generally more experienced teams.

Throughout the season the pack was the mainstay of the side, and they played many very good games of defensive Rugby. Unfortunately, the hooking and line-out work were not positive or determined enough, and the backs suffered from a lack of possession. Even at the end of the season the actual attacking strength of the backs was still an unknown quantity.

Maddams, the Captain, Sanderson, Snook C., Baker and Worley played well throughout the season. Harris at No. 8 worked extremely hard, and his covering in defence saved the side on numerous occasions. We shall miss the reliable play of Lockyear at full-back and the vigour of Lewis in the side next season.

If we are to do well next season, everyone will have to play with much greater determination, and a real effort must be made to dictate the run of play rather than follow the pattern set by the opposition.

2nd XV

By Mr B. J. Clarke

Played 15, Won 9, Lost 6, Drawn 0. For 216, Against 129

The 2nd XV had a mixed season, winning some very hard games and unaccountably losing others. Players were promoted regularly during the season, notably Snook C. and Morgan. No permanent Captain was appointed, but Snook C. and Isaacs did well when they led the side.
