COLTS RUGBY TOUR TO YORKSHIRE 1971-72

By P. Stockwell - 4A and W. Healey - 4A.

After having dropped off the Junior XV at Hipperholme, we of the Colts XV drove on to our hotel in Skipton and, after settling in, descended on the town to explore and dine.

Monday began with a very appetising breakfast, after which we again went into town. We set off for Hipperholme at 11 o'clock, where we lunched at the school. We went on to the field, to receive a hearty welcome from the Yorkshire supporters. Despite an early setback, when Hipperholme scored and the harsh variations of weather descended (combinations of wind, rain, snow and hail), we battled on to win 8-4. In the evening we travelled to Leeds, some going to Elland Road and some into the city centre.

We did not have a match on Tuesday, and so Mr. Cahill arranged some amusements. In the morning we looked around Leeds, and then we all visited the Rowntree-Mackintosh's factory at Halifax in the afternoon. We returned to Skipton for the evening, which most of us spent at the cinema.

On Wednesday morning we defeated Ermysted's G.S. 20-11. We were allowed to do as we wished for the rest of the day in Skipton.

We rose early next morning to pack our things. After thanking our host and hostess, we drove to Crossley and Porter G.S., whom we beat 22-4, giving our team a 100 per cent record, despite the absence of O'Connell and Lambert from the tour through injury. Thanks are due to Mr. Cahill for taking us on a most enjoyable tour, and thanks to his training it was a highly successful one.
