HM Inspection (1962)

Summary and Conclusions

Started in September, 1955, the school is just reaching its full development. For present numbers the buildings have some serious short-comings. Reconsideration is desirable of the expediency of the express course followed by the A forms, of the whole position of languages and of the aesthetic subjects in the school curriculum, and of the policy in respect of examinations, especially as regards science and mathematics in the sixth form. Nevertheless, under a well-qualified staff the boys achieve thoroughly satisfactory standards of work, and the life of the school outside the classroom is full, vigorous, and happy. The headmaster has played a most notable part in giving the school such a splendid start.

And the headmaster writes:

The team of Her Majesty's Inspectors, who carried out a full inspection of the School last February, reported very favourably on the work and the activities which they saw. This, together with the successes recorded in this issue of the magazine, is a challenge to us all to do everything in our power to maintain and even to improve the high standards reached this year.
