Sad to report the passing of Mr. John Ryan. He was well-liked and taught physics between September 1970 and July 1973 when he left for Vyners, returning to Haydon some years later as Head of Science. At some point in his career he taught at Latymer Upper. He retired from Haydon in 1997. John was also an accomplished violinist and in later years he was often to be seen in the Northwood area.

The funeral of John Ryan will be at Holy Trinity Church, Northwood at 11am on 13th January 2025.

Martin Halley (1958-64) writes: Eric was in the '58 intake and left for Bristol University in 1965. He was a much appreciated close friend and confidant.

Enjoy the School Play reviews. With regard to Julius Caesar, Mr. Winter writes, "Duncan Rooke's Julius Caesar was well done... too often stage Caesars suffer from premature divinity."

Very sad to report the passing of Malcolm Money.
Malcolm Newing writes: Some of you may well have been taught by Malcolm because he returned to St. Nicks for a short period as a teacher. He was a stalwart of Old Boys rugby, a gregarious individual with cheeky manner as both a friend and a tutor. He will be sadly missed.

THE HOPEFUL VICAR
Original Work by B. HATHERELL (ID)
The afternoon of the village fête,
The vicar beside the entrance gate
To greet his congregation
Who, to his consternation
Had given home-made wine, crockery
And other wot-nottery.
Therefore his hopes of a steeple
Entirely, without death watch beetle,
Although very often propounded,
Were most certain to remain
Unfounded.

To date, I've added about half the newsletters kindly donated by Graham Parish. They can be found HERE
When browsing the site using a desktop or laptop, pressing 'CTRL +' makes the display larger and after a couple of presses the side menu will disappear to be replaced by a hamburger menu in the upper left of the screen. Try it, I think it's rather good. Use 'CTRL -' to reduce the display back to original size.
I have received details of John Checkley's funeral from his son, Rich:
The service will take place at St Lawrence Church, Lechlade GL7 3AB on Friday 12th April at 12.15pm.
The committal will be held immediately after the church service at Lechlade Cemetery, a small peaceful space nearby. All are welcome to attend. For those not wishing to go to the committal please make your way to refreshments after the church service, details below.
Family flowers only but donations in John’s memory can be made to Prostate Cancer UK details to be provided in the Order of Service.
The family would love you to join them afterwards for refreshments at Monique’s Country Kitchen in Lechlade Market Place near to the church.
Please wear colour as John was not a fan of black.
I'm very sad to report the passing of John Checkley (1963-70). John was an excellent all-round athlete, a fine captain, back row player, wing forward, and played for Middlesex County in 1969. He is mentioned in many articles on this site, appears in several photos and penned a number of the magazine reviews.
His health had not been good for the last few years. I will pass on funeral details when available.
