Last year's Badminton team was, from the start, a strong one. All the players had had experience in one of the Badminton teams the previous season and therefore did not suffer (unduly) from nervousness. We had a difficult start to the season, playing our strongest rivals, John Lyon School, very early on. After losing that match, we went on to defeat other opposition conclusively in our Middlesex Knock-out Cup section, but this early set back debarred us from going forward to the quarter-final round of the competition. We also entered the West London Schools' Badminton League and retained the Championship for the third year running.
Nicky Veal and Graham Hardinges were a very successful partnership, winning many vital games and playing consistently well throughout the season. Stephen ('Henry') Wrighton and Jan Donczyk formed a strong third pair and their play improved steadily. Howard Davies, who joined the team half-way through the season, played his drop-shots with uncanny accuracy.
We are sad that Graham Hardinges is leaving the team but we look forward confidently to having an extremely strong team again next year.
