All winter long we have waited,
Snow, ice and winds we hated;
Though at times we seemed fated
Not to have any spring this year,
Mother said "Never fear,
You'll know when spring is here."
And it was quite true - we did.
All winter long the birds had hid,
And made their nests and kept warm amid
The tree trunks and the eaves,
But now they made music through the leaves,
As we relaxed and took our ease.
Original Work by R. Trewin, Form 2B
There stands the castle on Winfield Hill,
Looking gaunt and bare
It used to guard all Winfield land,
But now there's no-one there.
Time has waged its endless war,
And made this castle fall,
And now look! What is left of it?
A single, crumbling wall.
This single well makes a picturesque scene,
With ivy clinging fast,
It makes one wonder how life had been
Way back in the castle's past.
No feathered arrows wing their way
Over the grassy mound,
And now this brave castle stands crumbling -
Crumbling to the ground.
