The Hopeful Vicar
(1956)
Original Work by B. HATHERELL (ID).
The afternoon of the village fête,
The vicar beside the entrance gate
To greet his congregation
Who, to his consternation
Had given home-made wine, crockery
And other wot-nottery.
Therefore his hopes of a steeple
Entirely, without death watch beetle,
Although very often propounded,
Were most certain to remain
Unfounded.
