Sports At School (1957-58)
Original Work by R. DAVIES, 2A
"Sports are fine, clean, healthy fun,"
We're often told at first;
Athletics, cricket, rugby.
I wonder which is worst.
Rugby is a game we play -
A game for hefty chaps:
Some prefer Monopoly,"
Or Tiddly-winks, perhaps.
Cricket - game of Englishmen -
We hardly ever play:
The pitch is usually drenched,
Which ends our cricketing day.
The school sports come but once a year,
And that is often enough;
Running, hurdling, jumping, shot,
And other cruel stuff.
Sport, however, isn't so bad -
Lots of things are worse.
I'd rather be on the Rugby field,
Than writing boring verse.
