Original Work by P. JORDAN, IA.
When I survey the petty world of man,
Of which he proudly boasts to all his kind,
The folly of those of his futile clan,
And every product of his narrow mind
Is made apparent. He cannot check the lust
For things material and of this world.
The time must come when such decays to dust.
And all this fame unto destruction's hurled.
Yet throughout all, God stands by mortal men,
Never forsaking them although they stray
From his wisest guidance. Beyond their ken
There is the world of God which, in time, may
Reveal to man the truest way of life,
And put an end to all the crime and strife.
