This proved to be the most successful season since the School first fielded a senior XV, only two defeats being suffered, both by narrow margins.
In most games opponents were beaten by the team's ability to mount attacks from almost any position and by a defence that rarely yielded a try. The forwards, weighty and unusually mobile, managed to obtain more than a fair share of the ball and with such frequent and rapid possession the half-backs were able to supply the threequarters with many opportunities - a situation of which they took full advantage.
Individually, Lawson is to be congratulated on being selected for London Counties, and Morgan for playing in the Middlesex Schools' side. Weaver was a very consistent hooker, while Baker, with Lawson, dominated the line-outs. The back row, Gathergood, Harris and Strange, covered well and provided ample support for the backs, among whom Bulgin provided penetration and Butterfield, the finishing power.
The cancellation of the Welsh tour because of the smallpox epidemic enabled the school to enter, and almost win, the Wasps' Seven-a-side competition for the first time, since it was only in the dying seconds of an exciting final that Thames Valley G.S. gained the winning try.
Colours were awarded to M. Baker, J. Bulgin, R. Butterfield, E. Cardy, K. Gathergood, P. Lawson, A. Loveday, R. Snowden, P. Strange and J. Weaver.

The 2nd XV enjoyed a very good season as the list of results indicates. The only defeat was at the hands of our guests from Bath, who avenged our win of the previous Easter in the West Country.
The side's success was largely due to its ability to adapt itself to the conditions of play. R. Stokes, at fly-half, was the season's greatest success, but good teamwork was responsible for many a victory.

This was the first season that the 3rd XV had an organised fixture list, and the "team" did extremely well when it is considered that nearly fifty boys represented the side throughout the year, and that the heaviest defeat suffered was by 8 points.
If co-ordination was obviously lacking at times, this was abundantly compensated for by the fine spirit which always. prevailed.

After losing seven of the first ten games the Colts team settled down to a season of hard, well-fought rugby, team spirit being predominant in all games.
Individually, Mott led a spirited pack well, with Foy and Owen outstanding at wing-forward. Frankcom steadily improved at scrum-half, and Wooding played consistently well in the centre. Unfortunately, due to injuries, the team played many games without either Taylor or Burrells whose tackling and strong running were always a great asset.

The Junior XV had an excellent season. The forwards dominated. most opponents and, with Speck and Lucas at half-back providing an admirable link, the backs were given ample opportunity to show their paces. Cook and Westray improved throughout the season as attacking threequarters.
Our thanks are due to the many "supporters" at each game, to Urie, our ever-present touch-judge, and to the many good reserves who kept us on our toes during the latter part of the season.
Junior Colours were awarded to M. Cook, G. Horn, L. Jones, C. Knight, D. Lockwood, J. Lucas, I. Parish, C. Prior, G. Powell, R. Speck and A. Westray.

The team had a varied season, for although no defeats were conceded at home, no wins were gained on opponents' grounds. On the whole, however, the team played spiritedly, apart from a lapse of enthusiasm for tackling in the last game of all.
Nash led the pack with great enthusiasm from No. 8, and Lowe and Kelland combined well in the second row. Special mention must be given to Henry, at scrum-half.
