With Mr. Lee's departure, the Rugby enthusiasts awaited, with some trepidation, the arrival in September of the new Games master. On hearing that he was Welsh our apprehension heightened - one record-breaking, downhill brick thrower from the Valleys was quite enough for a School still in its first decade. We need not have worried, however, for out of the Western mists came Mr. A. Williams who, with typical Celtic fervour, set about showing the 1st XV that his quickly-earned nickname of "Killer" was a mere euphemism.
The groundwork completed, Mr. Williams took on the unenviable task of creating almost an entirely new team, for only four of the previous season's successful 'fifteen' remained at School. The fact that some very satisfactory results were achieved, including a draw with Hampton G.S. which spoiled their unbroken run of victories, was entirely due to his efforts and to the team's whole-hearted response to them.
Strange, Butterfield and Wormald lent much-needed experience to the young side, whilst the vice-captain, Samways, was always steady at full-back.
Colours were awarded to D. Byrne, P. Dawson, M. Nowland, J. Samways, R. Stokes and S. Threlfall.

Mention must be made of the outstanding record of the 3rd XV. Despite the crippling calls on manpower as the result of 1st XV and 2nd XV injuries, a real team spirit existed, thanks largely to the enthusiasm shown by Mr. Chettleborough, who often had his best players whisked away to higher things as late as Friday lunchtime. The team's record is made more impressive when it is realised that nine of their games were against 1st XV opposition.

The highlight of the Colts' season was the winning of the Hampton G.S. seven-a-side tournament. The School beat Chiswick G.S. 18-3 in the final, having accounted for Raynes Park G.S., Chiswick G.S. II and Hampton G.S. earlier.
I. M. Parish and A. Westray are to be congratulated on representing Middlesex Colts.
