The Richard Matthews Trophy

This year twenty-four boys entered for the knock-out tennis competition for the Richard Matthews Trophy. Three-set matches were played in the preliminary rounds and five sets in the final. Competitors showed keen interest and friendly rivalry. The standard of play in the earlier rounds was not good, but the final between Weight and Booth was a very good match and was more closely fought than the final score suggests. Weight was the winner, 6-2, 6-4, 6-4.
