For some reason or other the Tennis Club ceased to be active this year. The long-awaited nets had arrived but the only time they were used was on games afternoons and at rare "team" practices. I put "team" in inverted commas; for what a shambles it was! Our first season of matches against other schools was disastrous, not one win being recorded.
As captain, I do not offer any excuses on behalf of the team. Let us hope that the last match of all, when the Staff were beaten 7-2, was an indication of better things to come in 1964, when we also hope to resurrect the School singles tournament - another aspect of the game that fell by the wayside this year.
