HM Inspection (1962)
HM Inspection (1962)
The school has its own careers organisation, which works under a master in charge assisted by two colleagues. Cordial relations have been established with the county youth-employment service, and parents are fully consulted. For lack of other more appropriate space, the rest room has to be used as the careers office.
The extra-curricular life of the school is full and vigorous. There are many societies and clubs run by the boys themselves in co-operation with one or more members of the teaching staff. Several of the clubs have separate sections for seniors and Juniors. Many visits and tours are organised, some of them to countries on the Continent during the present school year, for instance, different parties will go, or have already gone, to Switzerland, France (in) connexion with an exchange scheme arranged with the lycée d'Orsay), and Rome.
The parents association was formed soon after the school was opened, with the main purpose of assisting the school by all the means in its power. Examples of the splendid help that the association has provided in the matter of buildings and equipment have been given earlier. A further invaluable service undertaken by the association is the provision of refreshments for all inter-school games that take place at home, whether on Saturdays or during the week.
In the general life of the school an important part is played by the school prefects and monitors, who appear to have established sound traditions. As was indicated earlier in this report, they deserve a better meeting-place than their present one, which was originally intended as a store-room.
The school as a whole gives the impression of being a friendly, hard-working community. The boys are alert in the classroom, cooperative, and also so far as the circumstances of the inspection enabled a judgement to be formed well behaved in and out of the buildings.
