DURING the winter of 1959-60 a badminton club was started, but due to lack of support and limited facilities it never really functioned properly.
However, the following year (1960-61), with the added enthusiasm of Mr. Walker, plus two more courts marked out in the hall, and increased funds, the club was able to get under way.
It was not long before a number of good players came to the fore, and soon a singles championship was started. This was run very successfully, and R. Art proved a worthy champion when he beat R. Butterfield in the finals by fifteen points to eight and sixteen points to fourteen.
Towards the end of the season, a school team was formed which played two matches; firstly against Bishopshalt, beating them by six games to three, and then later having a similar success. against Rickmansworth G.S.
The team consisted of: R. J. Art, R. J. Butterfield, D. E. Harris, A. R. Cadby, D. Rooke, C. Payne.
It is hoped that this successful start will be continued next year.
