AT the beginning of the summer term the Tennis Club was inaugurated under the guidance of Messrs. Owen and Tully. Although there was an isolated incident when IV-A were invited, membership was limited to sixth formers, since we only have the use of the six courts at St. Mary's one evening a week. It is hoped however that we will soon have our own courts when membership may be extended to other forms.
Despite our English summer the club has met each Tuesday and now has its regulars. It serves the function of most tennis clubs, providing strong competition for the better players and helping to teach people new to the game. Several members of the club had never played tennis before this year.
Towards the end of the term a singles championship was organised and R. Art beat G. Ford in a keenly contested final.
A tennis evening was arranged with St. Mary's on the lines of an American tournament, with tea provided by our sister school. The evening was very successful and we look forward to similar inter-school matches next year.
The first year of the club has been in the nature of an experiment. We all look forward to our second season which we hope will be as successful as our first.
