Cross-Country 05 (1961-62)

SENIOR TEAM 1961-62 📷

Six members of last year's team returned to School and, with the addition of Gibson, there was a nucleus for a very strong "nine". The team took a long time to settle down and reach fitness, however, and it was not until late November that a victory of merit was achieved, when the Polytechnic Harriers Road Relay was won convincingly.

The team was at its best after Christmas, and the highlight of the season was the Middlesex Schools' Championships, in which the school had five competitors in the first nine places including the winner, Dothie. As Sparks was well placed in the Intermediate Section, St. Nicholas had six representatives in the Inter-Counties event at Birkenhead.

In the Middlesex Grammar Schools' Championships, again held at Haste Hill, seven runners in the first twenty places was not a good enough performance to account for old rivals, Bishopshalt. J. Gibson and B. Sparks were awarded colours.
